"Plagiarism Detector" general discussion / Re: self sitation
« Last post by Alexei B. on December 21, 2017, 01:21:28 AM »
Hi Alexei, how reliable is this feature? I always fear these things might miss stuff and get you in trouble.
When it is of vital importance, I'd always recommend you to check yourself first, before submitting any paper.

The known problem with this feature that exists in some cases, is when Plagiarised and Referenced sections heavily overlap and are merged into one section. The resulting section may be shown as Plagiarism, even if a part of it is Referenced. However this is not likely to happen for "clean" documents, is it?

The merging algorithm is planned for upgrading in one  of the future versions.

Versions - Release History / PDC core versions 1030-1041

Important:
- Changed the initial source extraction algorithm. The new algorithm ensures possible sources are found, as the old one has siezed to function.
- Due to the framework changed, new versions give a different computer ID. This meanslicenses are to be re-initialized, if updating from an old version.

- Multiple fixes in localizations.
- Multiple fixes regading compatibility with both old and new version of Windows.
- Updated compatibility with secure resources to prevent failing of resources using new versions of TLS.
- Other changes.

"Silver Bullets" / Resource fails to Load
« Last post by Mike Sanders on November 18, 2017, 06:12:19 PM »
If you landed here it means one of the Resources requested by was not downloaded Ok.

There can be lots of reasons why this happened.
Most frequently they fall into:

1. Resource is down (try to open the same URL in a different Browser).

You can do the following:
- Jsut wait for the resource to be up.

2. PD fails to download the exact web page (some resources do not allow Internet Explorer core).

Usually marked as RDF = [Resource Download Failed] in Originality Reports.

RDF usually is followed by a detailed error description :: "Unable to connect to the remote server"

You can do the following:
1. Check if TLS 1.2/1.1 works OK in your Windows:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/3140245/update-to-enable-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-as-a-default-secure-protocols-in
Update your system if needed.

+ see error codes: https://plagiarism-detector.com/smf_bb/index.php/topic,27.0.html

2. PD downloads the page Ok, but unable to extract Plaintext for the resource.
You can do the following:
Try to select a different resource parser engine in PDC and reload.

General Talks about Plagiarism / Re: Plagiairsm amount threshold for students' works

Several times we have been asked, what is the Phallosan page https://casenergy.org/phallosan-forte-review-results maximum % of Plagiarism in a document we would see as acceptable. But the fact is we leave this question for our users to decide upon and we have never before gathered any feedback about it.

It's hard to say. I'd love to say zero tolerance, but that's unrealistic sadly.
